Les Compagnons des francs loisirs ont une gamme complète d’activités pour marquer leur 60e année et vous invitent à planifier votre prochain voyage dans la région de North Bay pour vivre une expérience franco-ontarienne unique.
Les Soirées franco, le Carnaval, le concours Star Académie et la St-Jean sont parmi les grands évènements à surveiller dans la programmation de 2023-2024.
Les Compagnons ont débuté leur nouvelle année avec un spectacle de l’artiste-compositrice d’origine haïtienne, Ferline Régis. L’organisme a également remis des prix de reconnaissance au coprésident sortant Michel Pagé et à l’entrepreneur-vidéaste Richard Fortin pour leurs contributions et leur engagement envers des initiatives francophones dans la communauté.

Le premier Festival Franco-Ontarois a eu lieu durant la fin de semaine de la journée des Franco-Ontariennes et des Franco-Ontariens. Les dirigeants ont organisé plusieurs activités familiales, des levers de drapeau, un après-midi de danse avec le groupe Bigmoves Dance, une soirée Trivia et des performances de musique d’Isabelle Lebel et Jules-Pierre Fournier, de Xavier Boucher et Gab Lavoie, de Shawn Sasyniuk et d’Akeem Oh.

L’automne
La première Soirée franco se tiendra à la brasserie New Ontario Brewing le vendredi 27 octobre. L’artiste multidisciplinaire Stéphanie Morin-Robert présentera sa pièce BLINDSIDE, une comédie véridique de grandir avec un œil de verre dans le Nord de l’Ontario.
La Troupe du-bord-du-lac fêtera ses 40 ans avec un souper-spectacle dans la cafétéria de l’École secondaire catholique Algonquin le vendredi 3 novembre.

Dans le cadre d’une exposition francophone d’arts contemporains, le Paysagiste Dayv Poulin et Xavier Boucher joueront plusieurs de leurs chansons à la galerie WKP Kennedy le vendredi 17 novembre.
Entre septembre et novembre, il y aura également des ateliers d’art Batik sur sac réutilisable au motif automnal avec Michelle St-Onge, de confection et de décoration d’ornements de Noël avec Manon Dufour, des sessions de marche avec l’entreprise Active Running et de danse en ligne avec Loudanza à Bonfield et à Nipissing Ouest.
L’hiver
L’auteur-compositeur-interprète Jean-Guy Chuck Labelle sera le deuxième à monter sur scène à la brasserie New Ontario dans la série des Soirées franco. Son spectacle festif est prévu pour le vendredi 8 décembre.

Les Compagnons ont déjà dévoilé une partie de la programmation du 61e carnaval. Roch Voisine, Céleste Lévis et le duo André Varin et Marie-Claude Gagnon y seront dans la région entre le 27 janvier et le 10 février 2024.

Un atelier de confection de cartes de Noël avec Sylvia Antinozzi et des mises en lecture théâtrale avec Michelle St-Onge auront lieu en décembre, janvier et février.
Le printemps
Ce sera au tour des Bilinguish Boys de présenter leur spectacle de chansons, de musique, d’improvisation et d’humour à la troisième Soirée franco le vendredi 22 mars 2024. Stef Paquette, Dayv Poulin et Édouard Landry encourageront la foule à participer, à rire et à vivre des moments boysément bilinguish.

Un atelier de peinture sur parapluie sera ensuite offert par l’artiste Raymonde Gaudette en avril.
Le 20e concours Star Académie des Compagnons se tiendra à l’auditorium de l’École secondaire publique Odyssée le lundi 6 et mardi 7 mai 2024. De jeunes chanteurs de 5 à 18 ans partageront avec un public enthousiaste leur passion pour la musique.
La troupe de danse Corpus Dance Project sera au centre commercial Northgate le samedi 25 mai 2024 pour donner une présentation de poésie, de beauté et d’espoir.

La quatrième et dernière Soirée franco mettra en vedette l’artiste country rock Mitch Jean le vendredi 21 juin 2024. Durant cette même fin de semaine, les Compagnons présenteront diverses activités rassembleuses en lien avec la St-Jean à North Bay, à Nipissing Ouest et à East Ferris. Elles seront annoncées à une date ultérieure.

Les Compagnons des francs loisirs has a year’s worth of activities lined up for their 60th anniversary and invite you to plan your next visit to North Bay to experience Franco-Ontarian culture at its finest.
Les Soirées franco, Le Carnaval, the Star Académie singing contest and la St-Jean are among the events to keep an eye out for throughout 2023-2024.
Les Compagnons started their new season with a performance by Ferline Régis, a singer-songwriter of Haitian origin. The organization also recognized their past co-president Michel Pagé and local videographer Richard Fortin for their contributions and their commitment to francophone initiatives in the community.
The first ever Festival Franco-Ontarois was held during the annual Franco-Ontarian Day weekend celebrations. Many family activities, flag raisings, an afternoon of dance with Bigmoves Dance, a trivia night and musical performances by Isabelle Lebel and Jules-Pierre Fournier, Xavier Boucher and Gab Lavoie, Shawn Sasyniuk and Akeem Oh were organized throughout the community.
The Fall
The first Soirée franco of the season will take place on Friday October 27th at New Ontario Brewing. Stéphanie Morin-Robert will present a show called BLINDSIDE, a lived experience comedy about growing in Northern Ontario with a glass eye.
The performing arts group La Troupe du-bord-du-lac is celebrating its 40th year with a dinner-theatre show on Friday November 3rd in the cafeteria at École secondaire catholique Algonquin.
Le Paysagiste Davy Poulin and Xavier Boucher will play a number of their songs during a francophone contemporary arts exhibit on Friday November 17th at the WKP Kennedy Gallery.
Between September and November, there will also be a number of artistic and cultural gatherings taking place – including an autumn-themed reusable bag Batik Art workshop by Michelle St-Onge, a Christmas decoration workshop with Manon Dufour, weekly outdoor walks with Active Running and line dancing with Loudanza in Bonfield and West Nipissing.
Wintertime
Singer-songwriter Jean-Guy Chuck Labelle will be second to get up on stage during the Soirée franco series at New Ontario Brewing. His festive performance is scheduled for Friday December 8th.
Les Compagnons has already provided us with a sneak-peak of their upcoming programming for their 61st Carnaval. Roch Voisine, Céleste Levis and the duo André Varin and Marie-Claude Gagnon will be in North Bay between January 27th and February 10th 2024.
A Christmas card creation workshop by Sylvia Antinozzi and various Theatre Readings by Michelle St-Onge will also take place in December, January and February.
Springtime
The Bilinguish Boys are next up in the Soirée franco series. Stef Paquette, Dayv Poulin and Édouard Landry will be showcasing their musical, improvisation and comedy skills on Friday March 22nd, and will engage the crowd to participate, laugh and live many boysément bilinguish moments throughout the evening.
Raymonde Gaudette will present an umbrella painting workshop in April.
The 20th Star Académie des Compagnons singing contest will be held on Monday May 6th and Tuesday May 7th 2024 in the auditorium of École secondaire publique Odyssée. Young performers between the ages of 5 and 18 years will share their passion for music with an enthusiastic audience.
Later in the month, the Corpus Dance Project group will perform a show based on poetry, beauty and hope on Saturday May 25th 2024 at the Northgate Shopping Centre.
The fourth and final Soirée franco will showcase country-rock musician Mitch Jean on Friday June 21st 2024. Throughout the same weekend, Les Compagnons will also organize various activities for the St-Jean French Canadian celebrations in North Bay, West Nipissing and East Ferris. They will be announced at a later date.
Les Compagnons undoubtedly have a dynamic lineup for 2023-2024. Whether it’s music, theatre, visual arts or dance, there’s something for everyone this season.
