Skijoring is essentially cross-country skiing with the assistance of pulling dogs. It originates in Scandinavia, as do many winter dog sports. Special harness equipment is required to be worn by both the skier and dog. Since the skier can provide as much power as is required to travel, any enthusiastic dog can participate.

A kicksled is similar to a dog sled on skis and can be propelled by a human ‘kicking’ the snowy ground to glide forward, or pulled by one or more dogs on a harness. The number of dogs required depends on the weight of the human and sled.

Bikejoring is similar to dog sledding but in this case, the sled is a bicycle connected to pulling dogs. Since this sport can generate higher speeds, it is usually recommended that both dogs and humans have some experience with dog pulling sports and cycling, as the dog is connected to the bike and can affect your balance.
